Removing Ghost Nets
For the Ocean
Ghost Diving Germany e.V.
Germany
Protect Oceans and Wildlife from Lost Fishing Equipment

An estimated 640,000 tonnes of fishing equipment is lost in the world's oceans every year, most of it fishing nets. In the Baltic Sea alone, around 10,000 nets are lost every year, putting a strain on the sensitive ecosystem. Ghost Diving Germany e.V. recovers these lost fishing nets, fish traps, lobster pots and other fishing gear, primarily in the North and Baltic Seas but also in the Mediterranean, as part of large-scale international projects. In this way, the association is reducing the future burden of microplastics on the marine ecosystem when the nets have decomposed in many hundreds of years. They also prevent fish and other animals from getting tangled in the nets underwater and dying senselessly there. GDG consists of many dedicated volunteer tech divers who dive for and recover the nets free of charge in their free time. At the same time, there are educational projects in schools, at trade fairs and events to draw attention to these problems.

Avacuganda
Uganda
Healthy Plant-Based Food for People, Animals, and Nature

In 2026, Avacuganda is empowering the next generation through its Plant-Powered Campus Campaign, a vibrant initiative across Ugandan universities. This project inspires students to embrace plant-based food choices that benefit their health, protect animals, and reduce environmental impact. Through engaging campus events, talks, and outreach activities, Avacuganda connects directly with young people while collaborating with universities and food providers to introduce more plant-based options on campus menus. The campaign also strengthens a growing youth movement for sustainable and compassionate food systems. Funding will support student engagement activities, educational materials, and partnerships with institutions and vendors—ensuring lasting change beyond individual campuses. Investing in a powerful, youth-driven movement that shapes healthier habits, protects animals, and builds a more sustainable future from the ground up.

Help a Child Initiative (HCI)
Rwanda
Education, Protection, and new Opportunities

The Help a Child Initiative (HCI) is a child-focused education organization in Rwanda committed to tackling the root causes of vulnerability and exclusion. It supports marginalized children and young people, including orphans, children separated from their families, street children, children with disabilities, girls from low-income households, disengaged youth, and teen mothers. HCI combines quality education with psychosocial support, child protection, family-based care, and vocational training to help children grow in safe and supportive environments. The organization also provides age-appropriate health and sexuality education and uses practical tools to strengthen early childhood development and learning outcomes. By working closely with families, schools, and local communities, HCI creates lasting opportunities for children and youth to become confident, resilient, and self-sufficient. Current projects focus on improving foundational learning, expanding skills training, and driving long-term change across the education sector.
